Even though divorce rates in the U.S. have been steady the last few years, there are still a lot of couples getting divorced every year. Approximately one out of two married couples will end up in divorce court. And yet, marriage is still the ideal for most men and women. A recent survey of twenty-somethings indicated that 94% of these young men and women wanted to get married someday.

Most people go into a marriage with good intentions. They expect the marriage to last a lifetime, even though the odds for that are pretty grim. It’s becoming increasingly common for people to have two or three marriages in their lifetimes. This means, of course, that they will have had two or three divorces as well. So, the question for today is: can there be such a thing as a good divorce after a bad marriage?

There was an interesting study on unhappy married couples. These were couples considering divorce, but decided to stick it out for a while. The study found that within three years, most of the unhappy couples were now happy. They were glad they were still married and no longer wanted divorces. The conclusion was that unhappiness in marriage is fairly common, but it is temporary. The bad times don’t last.

There was another surprising discovery in the study. The researchers found that the couples who did divorce were no happier than the unhappy married couples. In other words, divorce solved nothing. And when the divorced couples did remarry, they were no happier-and, therefore, no better off-than were the couples who had stayed married. The lesson from all this seems to be: marital unhappiness doesn’t last and is not a reason to get divorced. In the long run, couples have their ups and downs, but the downs seem to be temporary. The marriage can be permanent and happy.

Still, there are marriages where conditions are bad and the differences irreconcilable. Abuse, abandonment, substance abuse, and infidelity are all situations where severe damage has been done to the relationship. All marriages cannot be made loving and happy again. Sometimes, divorce is justified. Sometimes, one or both partners ARE better off after the divorce.

So how do you turn a bad marriage into a good divorce?

First, acknowledge that you may still love your partner, but that your life will be better if you live your own life away from your partner. However, you can’t live your own life if you are focused on ruining his. To have a good divorce, separate physically and emotionally. Get over it and move on. The time and effort you spend on revenge or hatred is time wasted out of your own life.
Next, you may be getting a divorce but your children aren’t. They still have two parents. Forcing your children to take sides is using your children for your own selfish ego. Let your children grow up with two parents. Again, the time you spend trying to be the right parent, the good parent, is time better spent working on this new chapter in your life.

The relationship you have with your future ex during the divorce can make all the difference to the ease of the entire process. Accept responsibility for your part in the break-up and don’t throw insults and accusations back in your ex’s face. Your ex is not necessarily a bad person. He’s just not right for you. And, to keep your perspective ember, you’re not right for him.

During the divorce process and afterward when you’re single again, avoid going to family functions or social gatherings together. You are a single person once again. You have no social obligations to your ex. Socializing as a couple will only confuse the kids, give false hope to the families and muddle your own feelings. No convenience sex (ex sex).

You are truly your own person now. Make the most of it. Don’t waste your new life looking backward. Look forward with gratitude at the opportunities that await you as you begin this new chapter in your life.

With increased mergers and acquisitions, changes in Phone Company billing systems, telecom costs are on the rise. Take a closer look at your telecommunication bills. There are many ways that your bills have hidden charges applied, not to mention telecom contracts that were signed without Management approval. It’s time for Management & their Accounts Payable Department to be on the alert for errors, over-billings, and tariff violations.

If more than one person within an organization places orders then overlapping occurs. Mike requested Sally order phone lines for a new call center, Hal heard the request and placed the order as well. Now which lines were installed, those ordered by Sally, or Hal, or both?

One very common oversight found in bill auditing is line cancellation. Sally (the Telecom Manager) is certain she disconnected a line no longer needed. She even dials the number to ensure the line is cancelled. When she hears the disconnected message she feels sure the line will no longer bill. But does the billing stop? Not always. Only a detailed review of the bill, or calling the phone company a month or so later, will determine if the line is no longer billing.

When companies have mergers and acquisitions they inherit the bills from their predecessors. All the contracts they’ve signed and advertised listings need to be reviewed. Names need to be changed and their billing address revised. Phone equipment inventory and site evaluation needs to be conducted. All lines and circuits need to be identified then documented. Next an audit needs to be conducted to determine if your company is actually paying for what they need, or just paying for what they get.

Many double billings occur because of line portability and businesses changing providers hoping to reduce telecom costs. The lines are ported from the old provider to the new provider and if any error occurs the double billing begins. These double billings of lines, features, and services are easliy overlooked. It is a real challenge for a Telecom Manager to determine when it started, who is at fault, how to prove it, and how to recover the money. This is assuming the Telecom Manager knows how to discover double billing in the first place. Funds are being paid twice for the same services (every month!), and there is a procedure to follow to get this corrected and to obtain the refunds your company is due.

Telecom Management and organization skills are necessary to gain and maintain control of telecom contracts, circuit inventory, advertised lines, features, and telecom equipment. Placing correct orders is the first place to start in any telecom department. Learning to place telecom and phone line orders properly is essential but learning how to review the orders is imperative. Without accurate, detailed records many refunds will not be available.

Should you buy a business opportunity or Franchise if you want to get into the window cleaning business? Or just start your own and work hard; grow the business into a full-time profession and expand from there? Let us talk briefly about window cleaning franchises is in general.

One could argue without too much difficulty that buying a window cleaning franchise is simply a waste of money, after all you could simply go down to be 99 cents store and by a bucket 3 towels and a squeegee and hey, you are in business right? Well one could argue that, since to really be in business, you probably need to get a business license, insurance, buy some business cards and make a few flyers. Then you need to hit the street and drum up some business, of course this is not too awfully hard, but it is not all that easy either. Over the past two decades I have known many small startup window-cleaning people who have lasted a few months at most.

What I find interesting about it is that every single one comes in with such vigor and excitement ready to take on the world. When they leave and quit business they do so for an array of excuses yet still they will swear that would not have been any different had they bought a window cleaning franchise. My answer to that is hogwash. We take someone who’s been a business 25 years and we show you had a do that business, do you honestly think that you or me or anyone for that matter can go down to the 99 cents store buy a few products of the trade, get some business cards and flyers and do as well as someone with 25-years experience? A franchise can show you a business plan with all of the mistakes that they have made in all those 25 years built out of the business model?

I have heard people argue against franchising and I know little bit about. I have heard people brag to me about how great they are and how they can do anything. I myself have even thought that, but really be honest; fact is that nothing good life is easy, it never has been, it never will be, that is not good or bad it just it is. I applaud the startup entrepreneur, I applaud the street vendor, I applaud Donald Trump in his new reality show for making those contestants go out into the street and sell lemonade. The open market and free enterprise that you’ll learn from doing can not be taught in schools, it often Fries me to listen to M.B.A. students tell me how great they are, greatnesses does not come from saying; it comes from doing, it comes from perseverance dedication commitment and strength of character.

It does not come from reading chapters in paragraphs in textbooks that were written 40 years the prior and re-edited every decade or regurgitated with the latest buzzwords. No my friends you cannot learn about free enterprise by reading the teachings of Karl Marx in Das Capital. Likewise you cannot understand the writings in the novel Fountainhead or when Atlas shrugged or any short story, lecture or novel by Ayn Rand. I do not claim to be a know-it-all in all areas of the free market. I realize there is always more to learn to fully understand free markets; you must participate in them. Elliot Spitzer has no business crying “foul” over the shenanigans of Martha Stewart, he clearly does not understand. Greenspan on the other hand did participate in free markets after he had finished college.

Let’s not be too quick to judge what may appear to be simple, for nothing is simple. Window cleaning or car washing may appear to be very simple procedures and something you can train your third grader to do. I can safely say that that carwash industry, specifically the mobile carwash industry that our company the car wash guys is in seems more like rocket science than the simple business it appears to be. There is no one and no team which has studied the markets, participated in them and continually strives to innovate and build new prototypes to service more niches that our company http://www.CarWashGuys.com. In the window cleaning business the window wash guys http://www.windowwashguys.com has been around some 25 years. You cannot tell me that in 25 years of specializing in a specific niche like that, that someone cannot become excellent at their methods and procedures, marketing and managing, equipment and signage, uniforms and scheduling. Not to mention that the entire time a company like The Window Wash Guys is trying new products, new coatings, new chemicals and new procedures.

For someone to argue to what is “why should I buy a franchise? I could start a window cleaning business for $200, why do I need to pay you?” Is utterly ridiculous to us and preposterous for us to even bother to explain. If someone cannot see the value and knowledge that one gains from being the best they can be at a specific task for 25 years, then they truly are not smart enough to join our company in the first place.

So if you really think your are so smart and can do it yourself; then by God go get busy and do not waste franchisor’s time. After all what you are doing is trying to learn on their dime which you have not paid for; isn’t that why you really contact the franchise company? That is a chicken crap way to do things. Lying and playing games to steal information; If you are so special and so great and so wonderful that you think that you can understand 25-years of trial and error by going out and doing it yourself, then; go get em’ big guy? I hope at least you have the smarts enough to by a book about the subject or two from someone who knows what they are doing. Franchisees of strong market player franchisors eat the competition for lunch? The arrogance of some people is just ridiculous? They say things like; “Why should I pay you a dime, I can do this on my own?” Our answer is simple; if that is true, go do it. Shut up and stop wasting our time. That is what the franchisors think of your petty comments? “Loser, Show ME; don’t tell me what you are going to do, get busy and do it; Mr. Wonderful!” As a franchisor, I get perturbed listening to silly little humans, tell me how great they are and how they can do anything, better than our team within a week or two. You see I have watched thousands of these folks talk a good amount of smack and be here and gone in under 3-months. Grow up.

In my days in motorcycle racing, we use to call these bragging talkers; squids. Newbies, they would be balls to the wall before the race and then end up crashing or in next to last place a few hours later. You cannot be the best by osmosis; it takes hard work, practice and knowledge and of course a few hard knocks. A franchisor in any business has done much of this for you. If you are wise you will listen and not talk so much. Think on this, but do not call us if you are going to play games, we are busy.

1. Thou Shalt Not Pursue A Free Lunch:

Chances are, you will not get rich quick. Deal with it. Don’t waste your time convincing yourself or listening to others who tell you differently. Hard work and perseverance will not fail you.

2. Thy Products Must Solve A Prospect’s Problem:

We humans are greedy creatures most times. We want comfort, ease, peace of mind, and a plethora of other self indulgencies. Put yourself in the customer’s shoes and ask “What’s in it for me?”. If your ads or products do not clearly spell this out, and tell the customer how you will give him what he desires, most times you will not make the sale.

3. Thou Shalt Educate Thyself:

Read, Read, Read. Observe other successful people in your field. What are they doing? Read some more.

4. Thou Shalt Budget For Advertising:

Free advertising is an oxymoron. The only people reading free ads are the ones who are placing them there, and all they’re looking for is their own ad, not yours. Instead, learn all you can about your target audience, and find them. Whether it is through pay-per-click advertising using highly targeted keywords, eZine ads, banners on related sites, etc. Don’t go after the general public. Go after people who are looking for your type of product or service. Allow a certain monthly expense for advertising and stick to it.

5. Thou Shalt Track Thyne Advertising:

You made a sale! Congrats! How did the customer find you? If you have 10 different ads on 10 different sites, how on earth will you know which one(s) are working? View your server logs to see where the users came from. Create unique URLs to use in each ad. For example: http://www.yourdomain.com?ad1 http://www.yourdomain.com?ad2 etc. Just add the ? and ad number to the end of the URL you post along with each ad. Change the number for each one & for goodness sake, write them down somewhere! StatCounter.com offers a great free service that will assist you in tracking your visitors.

6. Thou Shalt Tweak:

Familiarize yourself with the term “split-run”. A split run is where you take 2 ads and send them out simultaneously and measure the results to see which ad pulled more clicks and sales. You take the better of the 2 ads and create another one. Run a split-test again with your best ad & your new ad. The winner moves on to the next round. Repeat this process often.

7. Honor Thy Mailing List:

Your current and previous customers are an incredible source of revenue for you. It’s a shame that many online business owners neglect this each and every day. Stay in touch with your prospects by sending an email or printed newsletter or flyer. Offer them special discounts and loyalty bonuses. If you forget them, they will surely forget you.

8. Thou Shalt Not Be Hindered By Failure:

You will fail. Period. Dust yourself off & get back on the horse. It is part of your education. Learn from it and move forward.

9. Thou Shalt Duplicate What Works:

Commandment number six goes hand-in-hand with this one. The wonderful thing about doing business online is the ease at which you can scale-up your operation. If you find something that works, do it again, and again. Reach a larger audience. If you’ve found a successful niche as an affiliate with a mini-site, set up 25 more sites.

10. Thou Shalt Reward Thyself:

You need some time away from the computer. Go outside. Go shopping. Visit friends. Buy yourself a new toy. Read something non-technical, fiction maybe. You’ve earned the right to treat yourself. Make it a habit or it will become a resentment.
